Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat said Monday that the government was planning to hold a special meritmaking ceremony early next month to help restore national unity.
Somchai said he wanted to remind Thais about Buddha's teachings and learn that they should not commit sin by causing trouble for other people.
"It's time we gave importance to religion. At present, our society lacks the ethics and virtue, which has led to confusion and conflict," the PM said during a visit to the Office of National Buddhism.
