Disease control

The Public Health Ministry will continue trying to control communicable diseases, which have already claimed many lives this year. So far, up to 89 people have died from dengue fever, 69 have succumbed to leptospiro¬sis and three have been killed by streptococcus suis.

"We have closely monitored some major diseases this year and will continue to do so next year," director of the Epidemiology Bureau, Kumnuan Unchusak, said yesterday.

Diseases under watch include dengue fever, lep¬tospirosis, streptococcus suis, measles, mumps, chickenpox, human influenza and pneumo¬nia.
